Yeti - Our Mascot for Visit Nepal 2020
The mascot of Yeti has been kept at various places across the nation – from hotels to the airports to several public places as an indication of the ongoing Tourism Mega Campaign of the Nation and identification of Nepal for Visit Nepal 2020.
Visit Nepal 2020 Secretariat collaborated with the Nepali Art Community to design the Yeti mascot for the promotion of the nation’s Tourism Mega Campaign. 108 Yeti sculptures of 7’X6’ size has been in existence those are beautifully painted by 108 artists from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious and traditional backgrounds.
Artists Mr Ang Tshering Sherpa and Mr Vijay Maharjan led the team in completion of the 108 Yeti Mascots. The idea of creating these sculptures is to give an artistic face to the mythical creature - YETI. Yeti, also known as the abominable snowman, is a mythical ape-like creature taller than an average human inhabiting the Himalayan regions, especially of Nepal which is synonymous to Nepal itself as Mount Everest is. Yeti is believed to be found in the upper Himalayas in Nepal and some of the people have claimed that they have witnessed Yeti during their trip to the Nepal Himalayas.
